Well Pilly the Black Swifttail Caterpillar has cocooned in our butterfly hatchery house. He began the process on Saturday and by Sunday about 24 hours later he was all wrapped up in his snuggly house.

It started with him being on the branch and away from the dill that he munches on for sustenance. Then I noticed the white anchor lines of silky string. Then a few hours later he began to disappear. I did not get many pictures of him cocooning.

Now we wait I have contradictory information about how long this process takes. Some experts say 2 weeks, while others say it could be till next spring. I guess we wait and find out.
