I would like to take the time to thank all those who I have known who have served. I would like to begin by thanking my Grandfather - my Mom's Dad he served in World War II, my Grandfather - my Dad's Dad - who also served in World War II as a Captain. I would like to thank my Uncle Ron - my Mom's brother who was in the Navy - I do not know what he did - but I do know that he is a certified scuba teacher. I would like to thank my Uncle Alex - who was my Aunt Joan's husband for many many years -who was a part of the North Korean war and served for many years prior and after.
A few folks I grew up with served they are Rob who did six tours of duty as part of the United Nations - he is a Sargent, his long time friend and my acquaintance Scott, Mal who was Air Force. They served and are now safely retired and safe at home.
Now a younger generation is serving and I know a few that are on active duty. First Raymond is in the Army and serving Canada. Ray is near and dear to my heart and will always hold a special place in my life. John - is a Marine and is currently stationed in Japan. Nathan who is on course in Kingston and is loving his career as a member of the Canadian Forces.
It is my hope that these youngsters will be kept safe from harm and closer to home than farther. We need to be sure to salute them when we can and our opportunity is coming on Friday. So take a moment - even better take a few hours and spend time at the cenotaph Friday and then follow it up with a Legion visit. Tis our annual pilgramage.
Respect the day and our fallen Heroes, our world would be a much different place if not for their sacrifices.
Take time to visit a few of these sites and spend some quality time remembering.

In Flanders Fields
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amidst the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved ; and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amidst the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved ; and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
