Last night was a first garden club meeting after our summer break. We had a master gardener talk to us about composting. I learned how to compost bags of leaves over the winter into a wonderfully nutritious soil replacement in the spring. Put your leaves all chopped up into a heavy duty black garbage bag, add just a little bit of water and put behind the shed for the winter. In the spring the leaves will be broken down and you will have an entire bag of great fertilizer for your garden or pots. Another tip I picked up was that if you use your weeds to make fertilizer too. Take your weeds toss them into a pillowcase and put into a covered garbage can for 7-10 days - when you lift the lid the smell should knock you over, then you know it is finished. Use as a liquid feed.
I was asked to pick up the newsletter for our garden club from the printer and distribute it to the folks who do not get it electronically. Sounds easy, until there is an announcement saying that it is not being sent via email. But, it was sent because mine arrived two days ago. Not sure why the confusion but I managed to save most of the newsletters.
Door prize - I am pretty lucky with these - if I buy a ticket I usually win something. Last night was a Goat's Beard perennial plant. I am not sure if I will plant it now or wait till spring, will decide that by the weekend.
Today is pickles so with that I bid you adieu.
