Fertilizer 101

I am not a big fan of fertilizer, I like to think that we are kind to our Earth and that our plants and flowers can get all they need from the Earth. I am in denial it is true.  However, fertilizer for me has to be green or else it does not come home.  Then it sits in the garage - not even the garden shed for months before I get around to using it.  I use the most environmentally safe and friendly fertilizer I can find.  I have come to the conclusion that if I would like my plants to actually grow and produce like

I would like them, then I need to resign myself to fertilizer use.
Pros of using fertilizer -
bigger blooms,
greener foliage,
more produce,
more vibrant plants in general

Cons of using fertilizer -
extra $$,
possible contamination of food plants,
possible death of wildlife,
math skills

I think that this will be an ongoing post and I will add to it as time goes by and I think of more postable moments and information to share.  But, for now that I all I have to share - I do know more have not touched on compost or tea, that is for another day.
